Description:

Manufactured during the inter-war Weimar era as a "Kommunalpolizei," or municipal police pistol utilizing leftover parts, with the frame re-numbered. Features serrated blade front and fixed notch rear sights, "1920" dated chamber, "DWM" monogram on the front toggle link, sear safety on the receiver, and magazine safety retained in the frame. The majority of these police issued Lugers subsequently had the magazine safeties removed or disabled, making examples like this which retain a functional magazine safety exceedingly scarce. "Crown/N" proofs are present on the barrel, extension, and breech block. Matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, and receiver, with matching two-digit "74" partials on smaller components including the takedown latch, side plate, bolt, and toggle links. Fitted with straw colored small parts, niter blue pins, "N" marked left and Mauser "eagle/655" marked replacement checkered grips, and a nickel magazine with an unmarked wood base. Includes a wood display stand, an issue of "Automatic Magazine" which discusses the pistol, and the collector's notes. Provenance: The Klaus Meyer Collection

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall, retaining 85% faded original blue and straw finishes with scattered light handling marks and spotting. The left grip panel is missing a chip of wood under the safety lever, otherwise crisp grip checkering. Mechanically fine. German Police Lugers such as this are exceedingly difficult to find in any condition retaining the magazine safety!
