Description:

The firm was originally founded in 1848 by Ludwig Borovnik I and for over 170 years it has remained in family hands and is now run by Ludwig Borovnik IV who continues the tradition of building some of the finest arms in the world. The rifle features blued Bohler Superblitz steel barrels with a ramped beaded blade front sight and raised rear quarter rib with fixed rear sight showing a gold centerline and a pair of German claw mounts holding a Zeiss Diavari-ZM 3-12x56mm T* scope in engraved rings along with gold inlaid line work on the front ring. The barrel rib is signed "Lud. Borovnik - Ferlach" in fine gold inlay flanked by flourishes of gold along with tight scroll engraving intermixed with more gold linework, as well as a diamond shaped patch of tight scrollwork with gold line accents on either side of the chambers. The import mark is concealed on the lower barrel beneath the forend along with the 1994 dated Austrian proof marked. The coin finished sidelock action displays fantastic tight scroll engraving surrounding bouquets of roses and interspersed gold inlaid scrolling line designs. The rifle also shows a pair of fighting boars on the underside and a bust of a mouflon ram on the triggerguard, both portrayed as fine highly detailed renditions. The rifle features dual gold plated single set triggers, gold cocking indicators on either lockplate, and a tang mounted automatic safety. The wood is absolutely outstanding, highly figured walnut with scaled checkering on the three piece forend which shows engraved coin finished fittings and the pistol grip stock with left handed cheekpiece, Shelhamer chinstrap, coin finished grip cap with gold lines and "GW" monogram, coin and gold cartridge trap, and a leather covered recoil pad.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence, a few spots with some dried grease on the coined areas, crisp engraving, a few minor marks and scratches in the wood, and sharp scale checkering on the stock and forend. The scope has sharp optics. Mechanically excellent. Fine arms from Ludwig Borovnik can take up to two years to complete, don't miss this chance to own an exceptional piece today!
