Description:

Beginning in approximately the 16th century, canes gradually became more popular among the upper echelons of society, reaching its pinnacle around the late-19th to early-20th centuries. Generally speaking, the more affluent and customer, the more elaborate the cane was, primarily to show off one's social and economic status. Flowers were often a common theme for women's canes, however, given its size, this cane was likely intended for a man. The antique ivory grip of this example has been expertly relief carved into bouquet of roses in full bloom. The grip is joined to the shaft with a plain gold band that has a small "NP" hallmark. The smooth shaft is of Malacca and is tipped with brass and iron. It measures 36 1/2 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the grip shows an attractive lightly aged tone, a couple minor chips on the petals, and otherwise minimal wear. The gold is mostly bright with some mild thinning of the plating. The shaft is fine with some scattered light flaking and crazing of the varnish.
