Description:

The Colt Single Action Army was one of the most popular handguns in late 19th century and is easily the most iconic and most thoroughly associated with the American West. This example was manufactured in 1883, and it certainly has the classic look of an authentic western working gun. The barrel has the standard one-line Hartford marking on top and the faint Frontier Six Shooter marking in an etched panel on the left. The left side of the frame has the three-line patent dates marking and "44.C.F." is on the left of the trigger guard. Matching serial numbers appear on the frame, trigger guard, barrel, cylinder (6539), and back strap, and the loading gate has assembly number "4926". It is fitted with a blade front sight, groove rear sight, and a smooth one-piece walnut grip that appears to have the matching number marked in the mortise. Includes a lightly tooled leather holster with Montgomery Ward & Co. maker's mark on the flap.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 60% plus of the original nickel finish with some mild flaking scattered throughout showing a grey-brown patina and some light surface pitting, typical of a western working gun. The grip is very good, showing the wear associated with a well-traveled sidearm and some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The holster is fine showing moderate wear.
