This is an extremely scarce example Marlin Model 1893 Musket, of which only 31 are listed in the Marlin's records, and only 22 were manufactured in .32-40 caliber. Brophy's book "Marlin Firearms" indicates that this serial number was the second 1893 Musket produced in 1895 and the first of 19 produced on December 14, 1895. The included factory letter confirms; Type: Musket, Caliber 32/40, Barrel length: 30 inches and Date shipped: December 14, 1895. The barrel has double pedestal peep front sight and military ladder-type rear sight. Blued finish with casehardened hammer and lever. Walnut stocks with two barrel bands and carbine style metal buttplate and sling mounts, with 1894 style sling swivels. Missing the ramrod and part of the front sight. Provenance: The Milan J. Fine, with 60% of the original blue finish remaining, thinning, with scattered dings, scratches and overall faint spotting. Faint case colors on hammer and lever. The wood is also fine with scattered dings, and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A scarce opportunity to own a desirable Marlin Model 1893 Musket, absent from most Marlin collections.
