Description:

While limited in production to only approximately 25,000-30,000 revolvers between 1875-1889, many of these "Improved Army" or "Frontier Army" revolvers saw hard use in the hands of Native Americans, settlers, and lawmen in the West. The Model 1875 was Remington's answer to the Colt Single Action Army and is arguably a more solid firearm with fewer main components than Colt's revolver. The Remington Model 1875 suffered from a combination of Colt's earlier start, as well as their government contracts, which weighed very heavy with firearms consumers of the time. Handling one of these revolvers, it is easy to see that a gunslinger in the American West that truly knew their firearms might prefer one of these over the hype and reputation of the Colt Single Action Army. The barrel on this example is marked with the standard single-line E. Remington & Sons address. The left front of the frame is marked "44", a marking used by Remington to denote revolvers in .44-40 W.C.F., rather than the proprietary .44 Remington CF. The matching serial/batch number is marked on the left of the grip frame, the loading gate, the trigger guard tang, and in pencil on the inside of both grip panels. It is fitted with a blade front sight, groove rear sight, and a pair of smooth walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retains 99% plus of the bright original nickel finish with some scattered very light handling marks, a cylinder drag line, and a small barely noticeable casting flaw in the left of the trigger guard bow. The grips are also excellent with a few scattered light handling marks and retaining almost all of the varnish. Mechanically excellent. This is a benchmark Remington Model 1875 Single Action Army revolver that would be welcome in the most prestigious collections!
