Description:

Manufactured in 1888, this is a documented example of a factory engraved Model 1877 "Thunderer" revolver. The included factory letter confirms the current configuration including the factory engraving (grips not listed), as well as shipment to Hartley & Graham in New York on 19 June 1888 in a six gun shipment. The engraving consists of primarily floral scroll with some zig-zag line accents and fan motifs on the recoil shield and loading gate. The top of the barrel has the standard two-line address, while the left has a very faint etched panel with engraved border. The three-line patent date marking is on the left of the frame and an "A" is marked on the left rear of the trigger guard. It is fitted with a blade front sight, frame top groove rear sight, and a pair of smooth pearl grips.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains traces of the original blue finish in sheltered areas with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina, some scattered patches of light surface pitting, and the majority of the engraving remaining crisp. The oversize period replacement grips are fair with some scattered minor chipping and cracks. Mechanically excellent.
