Description:

From the 16th century onwards, canes steadily grew in popularity, primarily as a status indicating accessory for the affluent upper echelons of society, including nobility and royalty. This example has been attractively relief carved with a simple coat of arms type shield with sprigs of wheat at the top and a small rose at the bottom. The antique ivory grip is joined to the shaft with a silver band that has floral motifs. The smooth hardwood shaft has contrasting colors divided down the middle and is tipped with German silver. It measures 36 1/2 inches overall.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the grip shows an attractively aged tone with some long scattered hairline age cracks. The pewter band shows an attractively aged patina. The shaft is also very good with some scattered light handling marks and a mild warp.
