Description:

This pair falls within the serial number range for 1887 right among some of the Dickson guns for the famed Scottish eccentric Charles Gordon. They are classic dueling style pistols with smoothbore browned Damascus barrels, beaded dovetailed front sights, dovetailed notch rear sights, "JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH" marked on the top flats, "1" and "2" respectively marked behind the rear sights, and London proof marks and the serial numbers on the undersides. The pistols are also respectively numbered "1" and "2" on the standing breeches. The casehardened breech plugs, locks, and furniture are engraved with fine scroll and floral patterns. The back action locks are signed "JOHN DICKSON & SONS." The blued trigger guards have the serial numbers on the tangs and are engraved en suite with the other furniture. The well-figured half-length stocks have horn forend caps and checkered butts. With original brass mounted wooden ramrods.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine with 95% plus brown and casehardened original finish, 70% original blue on the trigger guard with some minor flaking, some small spots of minor oxidation, and generally only light age and storage related wear. The engraving and markings are crisp. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering and some light scratches. Mechanically excellent.

Exceptionally fine with 95% plus original brown and casehardened finish, 90% original blue finish with one small patch of flaking on the rear of the trigger guard bow, minimal light age and storage related wear including some very faint oxidation, and crisp engraving and markings. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering and some very minor scratches. Mechanically excellent.
