Description:

This later period swivel gun has the Victorian cipher and "TOWER 1851" marked on the lock. The barrel is marked with London proofs. The left stock flat is marked "JW." The bore is flared right at the muzzle but measured around 14 gauge for the bore. An iron swivel mount is fitted around midway along the forend, and the right side of the butt has a "BARNETT/GUNMAKERS/LONDON" cartouche. These guns could be more readily moved around a ship's deck than an actual cannon but still provided some heavy firepower for repelling borders. They could also be used for signaling. You do not find percussion era examples very often. This impressive piece of 19th century firepower comes with a display stand to help it make a statement in your gun room.

Rating Definition:

Fine with dark brown patina on the iron, aged patina on the brass, a replacement hammer screw, and generally mild overall wear. The stock is very good and has some cracks and repairs in the forend and moderate scrapes and dings. The lock gets stuck in the half-cock notch.
