Description:

This pistol by Lambert Goffin (1768-1794) of Boileduc ('s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands) in the late 18th century is featured on pages 544 and 545 of "The Visser Collection, Vol. 1, Part 4" by G. de Vries and B.J. Martens. Goffin was born in Liege and apprenticed to Paquaij Hoterat and worked at the Culemborg factory for around nine years and became a burgher of Den Bosch in November of 1768. It features side by side smoothbore barrels with a concave rib, dished standing breech with light engraving, "L GOFFIN/A BOILEDVC" re-engraved on the locks, "1701" inventory number on the stock, raised relief floral scroll carving around the upper tang and between the entry pip and trigger guard finial, tear drop flats, Rococo floral scroll patterns on the brass furniture, and a ramrod with horn tip. Provenance: The Henk L. Visser Collection; Property of a Gentleman

Rating Definition:

Good with the iron cleaned to a silver-gray patina along with some faint pitting, aged patina on the brass mounts, and general minor overall wear. The refinished and repaired stock is also good and has a sliver missing by the right cock, crisp carving, smooth finish, and some faint repaired chips and slivers. Mechanically fine.
