Description:

In 1967 Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli founded Fabbrica Armi di Mario Abbiatico e Remo Salvinelli, more commonly know as FAMARS. Since the beginning the two have been innovators and have made a name for themselves creating some of the finest bespoke guns ever built. This gun is built with blued steel chopperlump barrels with a single nickel bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is retailer marked "Made For Waffen Krausser Munich" in fine gold inlaid script, 1978 dated Italian proofs, import mark on the underside of the left barrel beneath the forend, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with a single extractor. The action and locks are coin finished with wonderfully executed leafy scroll engraving encircling game scenes on the left, right, and underside with the scroll continuing onto the rebounding hammers, toplever, and the rolled edge trigger guard with articulated front trigger. The game scenes consist of a forested scene showing a pointer flushing a pair of quail in the main scene on the left with a covey of quail flying off in the small scene at the pivot pin, a hare flushing from tall grass on the underside, and a pointer flushing a pair of grouse on the right in the main scene with a solitary grouse in the smaller panel. The work is signed on the underside with a name that appears to read "F.Galea 77". The wood shows excellent burly figured with panels of multi-point checkering on the splinter forend which features engraved coin finished fittings, an Anson button release, and a gold inlaid "A&S" shield. The straight grip stock has teardrop carved drop points, a diamond cross section through the wrist, and a checkered heel. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.5mm (.728 inches) and measured .733 inches; choke constriction .020/.039 inches; minimum wall thickness .020/.023 inches; 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 12 oz.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, tiny area of surface spotting on the left barrel near the breech, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptional piece of firearms art and a wonderful blend of old school hammer gun with modern styling creating a truly phenomenal gun!
