The casehardened boxlock action features standard DH Grade engraving consisting of floral scroll work surrounding game scenes. The game scenes depict a setter in a field on the right, a brood of pheasants in tall grass on the underside, and a pointer in a field on the left. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with carved flats, "S. E. Massey/Middletown/Del./Nov. 29 1900" in the inscription oval, and an added Pachmayr Old English recoil pad. S. E. Massey was a jewelery store owner in Middletown, Delaware, as well as a rather accomplished shooter with scores listed in the local papers. The above configuration is confirmed on page 308 of "Parker Gun Identification & Serialization" by Price and Fjestad. Stock measurements: 1 3/4 inch drop at comb; 2 5/8 inch drop at heel; 14 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 12 oz.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retaining 40% plus original blue finish with thinning and spotting, smooth grey patina on the action with a coat of varnish remaining on the edges, a few minor dings and scratches, some high edge wear on the revarnished wood, and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
