This mid-19th century Germanic rifle was manufactured Morgenroth in what is now Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The Damascus barrel has eight-groove rifling, a dovetailed blade front sight with gold inlaid center line, dovetailed notch rear sight with a wide sliding bar with a fine notch, "MORGENROTH IN GERNRODE" in gold inlay with gold and silver inlaid accents including an arrow through some scrollwork just behind the rear sight, silver bands at the breech end, and gold bands and floral engraving on the breech plug. The upper tang includes a base for an absent peep sight. The lock has "MORGENROTH/IN GERNRODE" in gold inlay along with scrollwork, a bestial motif on the hammer with gold accents, a scene with a silver inlaid hound tied to a tree at the rear, and a pivoting hammer stall. The rifle is fired using adjustable double phase set triggers. It is mounted with German silver furniture with mainly scroll engraving along with a detailed scene of dogs attacking a boar on the trigger guard bow and a stag scene on the heel. The stock has a horn forend cap, checkering with carved scroll borders, raised relief cared scroll patterns on the sliding patch box lid, spare parts inside the box (extra front sight, another sliding rear sight piece, thumb screw, and worm), a large cheekpiece on the left, and a detailed raised relief carved scene of a stag leaping over a fallen tree.
