Manufactured between 1880 and 1885 per the information given on page 128 of Nigel Brown's "British Gunmakers Volume One: London". Blued steel barrels with a single brass bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked with the Rigby address, light engraving at the breech, period London proofs and late London reproofs on the flats, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with a single extractor. The casehardened underlever sidelock action displays extensive scroll engraving with "Jno Rigby & Co" on either lockplate. The gun features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and an automatic tang safety. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and round knob pistol grip stock with blank inscription oval and checkered hard rubber buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at "12/1" (.740 inches) and measured .747/.749 inches; choke constriction .010/.035 inches; minimum wall thickness .019/.020 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.

Fine, retaining 98% reapplied blue finish, smooth grey patina on the action, some pitting near the breech beneath the finish, and mild handling evidence. The wood is also fine with a tiny crack at the rear of the left lockplate, some chipping at the upper tang, some light dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
