Shot & ball guns gave the user the utility of two guns in one, and the ability to take game from upland birds to dangerous game on the plains of Africa or the jungles of India. The "Explora" was Westley Richards' response to Holland & Holland's "Paradox" and has garnered an equal following over the years. Blued steel barrels with a low blade front sight, five folding leaf rear sight on the matted rear quarter rib which is marked "SUPER MAGNUM Explora", "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co. LONDON" on the concave section of the rib, rifle chokes, period Birmingham nitro proof marks, and chambers with single extractor. The border engraved casehardened boxlock action is signed "WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co." on either side. The gun features double triggers and a tang mounted automatic safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend with dark horn tip, and round knob pistol grip stock with blank inscription oval and a factory dark horn buttplate. Length of pull 14 1/2 inches. Weight 8 lbs. 1 oz.

Very fine overall, retaining 90% original blue finish on the barrels, traces of original blue on the triggerguard, 20% original case colors with the balance a fine grey, spotting down much of the barrels, minor insect holes in the horn, overall light handling evidence, and crisp checkering on the wood. Mechanically excellent.
