Description:

Manufactured in 1971, this is one of six early factory cutaway Parabellum 29/70 Luger pistols made by Mauser that were commissioned by Fred Datig, of which he personally imported five. Later, Interarms also ordered a limited run of 100 cutaways, of which roughly 50 were delivered. Features polished blue finish on the barrel, extension, and frame with matte blue on the recessed frame flats and straw small parts. Both sides of the pistol feature large cutaway sections, including into the bore, bolt, magazine well, and even the magazine, all while the controls can be function checked as normal. The cutaway sections, both metal and wood, are painted red in the cut sections to highlight the edges. Includes original factory box with user's manual, Interarms patch, Mauser logo lanyard, brass cleaning rod, two dummy rounds, plastic display stand, takedown tool, copy of original Mauser receipt for the six cutaway pistols commissioned by Datig, an article copy of "The Mauser Parabellum" by Francis C. Allan, an issue of "Automatic Magazine" which features the pistol, and the collector's notes. Provenance: The Klaus Meyer Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus of original blue and straw finishes with some slight flaking to the red paint in cutaway sections and crisp grip checkering. The box is very good with taped lid corners. One could spend a lot of effort locating a similar Mauser Parabellum cutaway, and even more to find one of the other four cutaways commissioned and imported by Fred Datig!
