Description:

Manufactured in 1898. The top barrel flat is marked "'-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. The two-line/two-patent dates are marked on the lower tang behind the trigger with the serial number at the end. Lyman beaded blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn sporting sight. The upper tang is marked "-MODEL 1886-". Blue barrel, frame, and full length magazine, with casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, takedown, and that it was received in the warehouse on July 21, 1898, and shipped on September 28, 1901, order number 113330. Serial number applied on May 19, 1898.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle retains 60% of the original blue finish mixing to a smooth brown patina with a few scattered scratches and dings. The casehardened hammer and lever retains 30% of the original case color with a smooth gray patina. The markings are crisp and clear. The wood is also fine with scattered scratches, dings, and a few pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
