Manufactured in late 1881. One third octagon barrel shortened to 28 inches with no front or rear sight seats. Top flat drilled and tapped for 3 target blocks. The 38-55 Cal. Barrel has been sleeved to a 22 Hornet. The bottom of the barrel is marked "Y3" ahead of the spring and "VP" (in an oval), "3855", and "3" under the spring. The inside of the forearm is stamped with a "3". Paneled leaf spring pistol grip action, with a standard single trigger , finger lever, bushed firing pin breech block. Extra fancy American black walnut stock with a large swiss nickeled butt plate, checkering , ebony grip inlay matching firearm with Schnabel tip inlay. Factory later states special single shot configuration and shipped March 17, 1892.

Custom refurbished with most of the dark hot dip blue remaining. Excellent refinished stock and firearm with light handling marks. 50% original nickel remaining on the Swiss butt plate. 2 inch long sliver of wood is missing on the right side of the forearm. T.P. optics need cleaning. A very nice converted special single shot Winchester.
