Limited production, cased and engraved, Colt Fourth Model, D suffix, derringer manufactured in 1961. The derringer has a gold-plated frame, nickel-plated barrel and pearl grips. The trigger and hammer have a phosphate finish. The barrel frame and backstrap are decorated with well-executed factory scroll engraving. The engraving covers about 50% of the pistol's surface area. The pistol has the first pattern red vinyl case with the Rampant Colt stamped on the lid. The case lid has a red silk lining with "Colt" in gold letters and a red velvet bottom. The top of the pistol barrel is marked: "-COLT-" in the same pattern as the Third Model Derringer. The left side of the barrel is marked: "22 CAL. SHORT/COLT'S P.F.A. MFG. CO. INC./HTFD.,CT.,U.S.A." in three lines. The serial number, "46243D" is located in a panel on the left side of the frame.

Excellent. The pistol retains more than 95% of the original silver and gold plated finish and shows only light handling wear. The pearl grips are in excellent condition. The vinyl case is in very good condition. The Rampant Colt trademark is faded and there is some discoloration on the lid. The sides and bottom have some heat marks and finish loss. The case interior is in fine condition although the lining is loose on the lid. An excellent example of a limited production, factory cased and engraved, D-suffix Colt Fourth Model Derringer.
