Description:

Marked "PETTENGILLS / PATENT 1856" on top of frame and "T. K. AUSTIN" on bottom, followed by the serial number, which also appears on the barrel and cylinder. This is a six shot first model revolver with no loading lever. Note that the cylinder pin has an acorn finial instead of the fishtail of the prototype. There is a spring retainer on the right side of the frame for the cylinder pin. There is light floral scroll engraving on frame and trigger guard. The oversize brass grip screw escutcheons have tits top and bottom to keep them from turning. This feature carried over to the later production revolvers. The grip was shorter than earlier revolvers. The grip screw was also placed lower on the grip due to the modified mechanism. The front sight is a brass pin and the rear is the slot of a screw on top of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 80% blue on barrel, gray patina frame and cylinder with some dents and scratches. 65% varnish on grips. Mechanically excellent, bore is fine. PICTURED American Percussion Revolvers, p. 127
