Description:

Marked "THE OLIVER / 38 CAL. RIM FIRE / PAT. MCH 28. 71 MAY 27. 79" on top of the frame over cylinder. The dog head logo at the top of the grips and the lever type cylinder pin catch on the left side of the frame identified this as being made by Hopkins & Allen. The barrel is a brass tube soldered over a 5 inch stub barrel screwed into the frame. The butt is drilled for a shoulder stock attachment but it is missing.

Rating Definition:

Retains about 80% nickel overall, worn at the center of the barrel and top and front of the frame. The casehardening on the hammer and trigger is dark but the colors are still visible. The grips are fine. The action is functional but needs adjustment.
