Description:

Manufactured in Mexico in the early 1930's. Designed for the Mexican Army, between 600 and 1000 were made. When the military decided to remain with the Colt pistol, production of the Obregon stopped, and the back stock was put on the commercial market. Around 50 are currently known to collectors at this time. While the Obregon looks much like the Colt Model 1911 A1, it is mechanically different. The barrel rotates to lock instead of moving vertically, and some examples have been found (like this one) to be equipped with a magazine well safety that prevents the hammer falling when the magazine is out . The left side of the slide is marked "Sistema OBREGON / Calibre 11.43". The right side of the frame is marked "FABRICA DE ARMAS MEXICO", "No A 603" and "PAT.No. 35053". It features low profile fixed combat sights, grip safety, serrated grip straps, lanyard ring on the butt and checkered grips. With a copy of an article from American Rifleman with historical information, exploded diagrams, and a copy of the original patent.

Rating Definition:

Arsenal refinished, with 97% of the finish. There are some light handling marks, and the "Sistema OBREGON" marking is partially visible. The magazine catch appears to be a replacement. The grips are good, with some light scratching and compression. Mechanically excellent.
