Description:

This is a super RARE example of the very scarce Baby Nambu pistol with matching magazine as manufactured by the Tokyo Gas and Electric (TG&E) factory in Tokyo. These pistols were produced from 1909 to approximately 1923 and it is estimated that only about 550 pistols were ever produced by TG&E, with fewer than fifty known to date. This specific pistol has NOT been reported in any written documentation or published books. These pistols like the ones produced by the Tokyo Arsenal, were intended to be privately purchased by High ranking officers of the Japanese Army and Navy and were not a general issue weapon, although they were accepted by the military. They had a high quality rust blue finish and straw colored trigger, magazine release, sear pivot pin and bolt lock. The bolt was finished bright. The magazine has a nickel-plated body with an extruded aluminum base. The grips are finely checkered hardwood, (from the walnut family). The chamber bears the circled "TG&E" proof with the Kanji makings on the right side of the upper receiver over the serial number (5959). The serial number is also visible on the underside of the bolt (5959) and on the back of the magazine also (5959). This pistol is complete with an original soft pebble grain leather holster with the smooth soft flap with an original leather shoulder strap. The inside of the flap is marked with the four intertwined cannon balls of the Tokyo Arsenal with a single Kanji marking over that. The "Baby" Nambu is the most desirable Japanese standard issue semi-automatic pistol and an example of a TG&E pistol could certainly be the center piece of any Japanese Pistol collection.

Rating Definition:

Period refinished overall with most of the professionally reblued finish overall with some very minor edge wear and discoloration on the trigger guard, with 75% of the restrawed color on the small parts. The markings are clear and sharp and it has matching numbers on all the visible parts including the magazine. The holster is in very good condition showing a nice even brown color overall with nice tight stitching and just showing the usual minor age cracking in some areas. Even in the current condition of this pistol, this is one of the most desirable of the Baby Nambus.
