This is a good example of a late war Type 99 sniper rifle with a 4x telescope. Based on the serial number range this rifle was probably produced in mid to late 1944 and it is a NO series rifle manufactured at the Nagoya Factory and marked on top of the rear receiver over the serial number with the Nagoya Arsenal symbol. The Rifle is equipped with a fixed 4X power sniper scope that is marked on the front ring with the manufacturers symbol indicating manufacture by the Tokyo Shibaura Denki KK company and it is fitted with the Japanese range finding reticule. It is serial numbered on the objective eye piece 8829 and the mounting plate on the back is numbered 754. It is complete with an original rubber eye piece. The top of the receiver ring has had the Chrysanthemum carefully removed but the Kanji markings are intact. It is fitted with the military tangent rear sight graduated from 300-1500 meters without anti-aircraft wings with the peep rear and inverted "V" front sight with guards. There is no provisions for a monopod and it has the later one-piece front barrel band with two screws. It has the cupped buttplate, with side mounted sling swivels, with the correct milled trigger guard assembly and it is still fitted with the correct Type 99 sniper bolt and original scope base on the rifle. It has the correct military style wooden stock and handguard set.

Very good plus with the original military finish that is now a smooth brown overall on all the metal surfaces, probably from light use with exposure to salt air. As noted the mum has been carefully removed and it still retains matching numbers on the bolt and components but not the rifle scope. The scope retains about 95% of its original black enamel finish and the black rubber eyecup, though slightly misshapen, is still intact and flexible. The stock has an excellent original oil finish with only minor handling marks and blemishes. This is a rare World War II sniper rifle with the desirable 4x scope.
