Description:

George M. Chinn. 4 Volumes, USGPO, 1951. The first volume, parts I-VI, covers historical weapons from the early multi-barrel single shot "Mitrailleuse" type weapons throughout the Ager, Billinghurst, Gatling, Gardner, Gorgas and other mechanically operated guns through the Maxim. Browning, Nordenfelt, and other full automatic weapons up to WWII. Vol II part VII is Soviet Union weapons. Vol III parts VIII, IX, continues with WWII and immediately after in the U.S. Vol IV, parts X and XI are detailed discussions of mechanisms.
