Description:

World War II production Remington 1903 Rifle. The rifle has the modifications introduced by Remington to expedite rifle production in 1941 including rounded rear sight base, single gas port on the left side of the receiver and stamped lower barrel band. The rifle was arsenal overhauled at Raritan Arsenal and is stamped "RA-P" ahead of the stock reinforcing bolt. The barrel and receiver have the original Remington gray-green parkerized finish, and the lower barrel band is blued. Most of the components have the Remington "R" mark but the trigger guard, bolt and rear sight lack the "R" marking and are replacement parts added during overhaul. The left side of the stock is stamped with a faint boxed "RLB" final inspection mark and Ordnance Corps escutcheon. An encircled "P" proof mark is stamped on the underside of the stock below the trigger guard. Remington inspection marks are stamped on the underside of the stock ahead of the floor plate finial. The barrel is marked: "RA/ordnance bomb/6-42" in three lines. The front sight base is blued, indexed and marked "R" indicating the barrel and receiver were not refinished during overhaul.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel, receiver and other components retain at least 90% of the gray-green parkerized finish with light handling wear. Most of the finish loss is confined to the buttplate and the bottom of the trigger guard. Markings on the barrel and receiver are sharp. The stock is in very good condition with scattered handling marks; the inspection and overhaul marks are light but legible; the proof mark is crisp. A nice example of a substantially original Remington M1903 Rifle.
