Colt M1911 Pistol from a lot of 1,537 shipped from Colt to Springfield Armory for the U.S. Navy on September 26, 1914. The pistol has the pre-WWI military blue finish with checkered walnut grips. The right side of the slide is marked: "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.NAVY" and the left side of the slide has the 1897-1913 patent dates in a two-line block followed by the Colt Hartford address in a two-line block with the Rampant Colt trademark behind the slide serrations. The left side of the frame is marked: "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" in small letters in front of the trigger guard bow and is stamped with the "WGP" monogram of ordnance inspector Major Walter G. Penfield above the magazine release button. The serial number is located on the right side of the frame behind the side stop hole. The "H" provisional inspection mark is stamped on the top of the frame above the firing pin stop and on the barrel chamber parallel to the bore. The barrel is stamped with a "P" proof mark below the "H" and parallel to the bore. The pistol has the correct barrel, flat top rear sight, 1914 style safety lock with thick thumb-piece, long hammer with sharp edge and two-tone magazine with lanyard loop.

Excellent. The pistol retains approximately 90-95% of the original military blue finish. The slide retains most of the original blue finish with moderate muzzle and edge wear and some scattered surface discoloration on the right side. The frame has moderate finish wear on the grip strap, underside of the trigger guard and mainspring housing. There is light to moderate finish loss on the front edge and right side of the frame. The barrel chamber has about 75% of the blue finish. The grip screws have moderate finish wear and are original. The stocks show light handling wear and are excellent. The two-tone magazine is in excellent condition. All markings are sharp. An original example of a scarce "U.S. Navy" marked Colt M1911 Pistol in well above average condition.
