Description:

Marked "FOREHAND & WADSWORTH. WORCHESTER. MASS. U.S.A. / PAT. JAN. 11. NOV. 29 '87 JAN. 3 '88." on top of the barrel rib. These patents covered the hammer shroud, safety, and cylinder catch. The five shot cylinder is fluted at the front. The hammer is covered by a pivoting shroud that also acts as the barrel latch. The hump at the rear of the shroud is checkered to assist in its operation as the barrel latch. There is a safety lock at the rear of the frame behind the shroud. It is rolled forward to lock the hammer and shroud in place. The grips have the firm's initials "F&W" at the top. The earliest mark, shown here, has the initials inside an arc above a shield with stars and stripes. The grips are checkered with an eight point star around the grip escutcheons. Only a few of these were made in the two years between the start of production and the dissolution of the company in 1890.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% bright nickel on the frame and barrel, 80% flaking on the cylinder, 90% casehardening on the trigger and blue on the triggerguard. The grips are sharp with little wear. Mechanically excellent.
