Description:

This is a fine example of a early style single shot percussion Schuetzen or target rifle. The rifle is currently fitted with a heavy full octagon barrel that measures 32 inch, that measures 1 1/8 inch at the breech that tapers down to 1 inch at the muzzle with a large bolster. The rifle has both a standard barrel mounted adjustable hunting style rear sight and an adjustable target rear sight that is mounted on the tang, fitted with a sighting tube and eye disc. The muzzle has been turned round probably for a bullet seater (which is not included with the rifle) and it has a globe style front sight. It has the classic Schuetzen or target stock lines with heavy drop at the butt with a large double horn buttplate with a pewter forend tip and single barrel key with round escutcheon plates. It is equipped with the standard double set trigger assembly with a large steel triggerguard with three finger scrolls. The bottom of the barrel is fitted with typical muzzle-loading under rib with two thimbles, fitted with a hickory cleaning rod. The rifle is unmarked on all the parts to include the barrel and lock plate.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall showing 30-40% of the blued finish still remaining with the balance having all browned out. The lock plate has 20-30% browned finish that shows numerous light scratches in several area with the balance having turned a gray patina. The stock is of straight grained walnut that has a large potbelly drop to it that shows minor handling marks, pressure dents and dings in some areas from actual use. It has been nicely checkered on each side of the pistol grip area. Consignor states that this is a John Meunier style rifle, however as noted the rifle is unmarked.
