Heavy #4 target weight Winchester barrel with globe front sight and rear sight removed with filler block. The top flat is marked "---MANUFACTURED BY THE --- / --- WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.--- " The bottom of the barrel is marked with a "4" and a "11" in front of a dove tail cut and at the breech is marked "PAUL SHUTTLEWORTH 5 .14 .73 / RECHAMBERED TO 33.47". The left side of the receiver is marked "J M MARLIN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. / BALLARD'S PATENT NOV. 5. 1861". The serial number is marked on the bottom front of the frame. Equipped with a Unertl 1 1/2 inch, 20x scope with Unertl elevation and windage mounts, screw on lens caps and fine cross hairs. The receiver is drilled for a tang sight and the screws are present. Adjustable double set triggers. The forearm and #6 straight grip stock are checkered with a cheek piece, an initial oval with script initials and silver plated brass Schuetzen buttplate. Included with the rifle are a small Unertl catalog, a Freeland's catalog, 28 empty 32-40 cartridges, a brass bullet mold marked "J.E.M." and "35 35", a Vernier short range tang sight, a Simmons capper/decapper and a breech seeder marked "B. W. DARR".

Good. The barrel has a brownish patina with some extensive minor pitting. The receiver and lever have a dark mottled patina with some light pitting. The buttplate retains about 20% of the original nickel plating with the exposed areas having an aged patina. The wood is very good with a minor 3 inch crack on the upper right rear of the forearm, a minor 1 inch crack on the upper right side of the wrist at the receiver and minor pressure dents and dings. The checkering on the forearm is crisp and it is sharp on the stock. The scope is excellent with clear optics. The action is fine.
