Description:

BSA Magazine Lee-Enfield Rifle Mk I* (Long Lee) manufactured in 1903-04. This commercial Magazine Lee-Enfield Mk I * Rifle is identical to the British Army issue Long Lee rifles except for the lack of military markings and brass butt disk. The Mark I* configuration rifles were not issued with cleaning rods and lacked the cleaning rod hole in the nose cap. The rifle has a high quality commercial blue finish on all components except the bright bolt body and brass buttplate. The stock and hand guard are straight grain English walnut with an oil finish. The right side of the butt socket is marked: "B.S.A. Co". The serial number, "38878", is located on the right side of the receiver ring and the rear of the bolt handle. The barrel flat or knox form is stamped with a large "E" which indicates the barrel has Lee-Enfield rifling for smokeless powder. A BSA, "Crown/BV", inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the receiver. The rifle has a folding, V-notch, rear sight with platinum sighting lines that is graduated to 1800 yards and long range dial sight graduated from 1600 to 2800 yards with a 'pop up' rear aperture. The receiver has a magazine cut-off and the bolt is fitted with an integral bolt cover. This is a scarce, high quality, pre-WWI, British Long Lee Rifle.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains nearly 98% of the original commercial blue finish. The rifle shows little evidence of firing wear and only minor storage marks. Wear is limited to some insignificant scratches on the bottom of the magazine and sling swivels. The bore is perfect. The face of the bolt shows no firing wear. The brass buttplate has not been polished. The stock and handguard are in excellent condition with all of the original finish and show only very minor handling and storage marks. This is an excellent example of a early pattern Long Lee Enfield Rifle that is very difficult to find in this condition.
