Description:

This is a very good example of an early 98K rifle as manufactured by the Mauser Werke, in the Oberndorf A.N. factory. The top of the receiver is marked with the Eagle / 135 acceptance proof over "byf", the wartime code for the Mauser factory over "42", the year of manufacture. The left side of the receiver and barrel are marked with "eagle/ swastika" proofs. The receiver side wall has the small block "Mod.98" markings. The top of the bolt handle and the rear of the bolt assembly are numbered to the gun. Early style milled components. The stock and handguard are the correct pistol grip versions with the cupped steel buttplate and a single, large "eagle / WaA135" Waffenampt, proof on the right side of the buttstock. The front sight is the fixed inverted "V" and the rear sight is graduated to 2,000 meters. Complete with a engineer's bayonet, 10 inches long with sawback blade, and a sheath.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the original blue finish remaining overall. The stock is fine, with moderate pressure dents and scratches overall, and heavier dents and light chipping on the butt. The exposed parts have all correct matching numbers. Excellent action. Correct original WWII 98K's are very scarce.
