Description:

This is a very nice example of a scarce and desirable WWII Liberator pistol. These were produced by the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors from 1942-1945. They were intended as a cheap and easy to produce substitute, single shot pistols that could be dropped behind enemy lines to the French resistance, OSS and SOE forces that would enable them to kill an enemy soldier and capture his weapon. This is a Model 3, three hole model that was made from sheet metal stampings that were spot welded together on top of the smooth bore barrel. It has the cast zinc-aluminum cocking knob located on the rear of the pistol with the alignment pin cast directly into the cocking knob. The cocking knob itself has a small number (12) cast into the cutout on the left side. This heavy cast aluminum cocking handle which was rotated to the side to allow loading through a gate. The base of the grips was hollowed out to hold 9 more rounds.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus overall with a light brown patina showing on various areas of the pistol, which certainly would indicate some actual field use. The pistol functions correctly and it has the original base plate.
