Description:

This is a very nice example of a late WWII Remington-Rand contract M1911A1 service automatic pistol that was arsenal refinished after WWII, and later sold through the Director of the Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) in April 1962, that has not been issued or fired since. This pistol was produced in the very last contract run of M1911A1s in late 1945. The left side of the slide is marked "REMINGTON-RAND INC., SYRACUSE N.Y. U.S.A." The left side of the frame is marked "FJA" for Frank J. Atwood, the US Government inspector along with a "P" proof next to the magazine release button. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number, and "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY". It has the late production features such as the narrow checkered hammer, long grip safety and the serrated main spring housing and checkered thumb safety. The barrel is a late production blued High Standard is correctly marked with the 'HS' and 'P' proofs on the side of the lug area. The grips are the late war Keyes-Fibre versions with the reinforcing ribs, with the letter "K" inside the star, and a single mold number on each side. The magazine is blued war time GI version marked with a single letter manufacturers mark on the lip. The pistol is complete with the original cardboard shipping box and label showing shipment from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1962, a USMC marked canvas clip pouch and a packet of screwdrivers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as new with 99% of the GI reparkerized finish overall, with remnants of grease in various areas. The shipping box is also in very good condition with an excellent label on the front. A very nice representative M1911A1 pistol.
