Description:

Scarce Savage M1907 Semi-Automatic Pistol from the lot of 200 manufactured by the Savage Arms Company for troop trials with the U.S. Army. Approximately 300 M1907 Pistols were manufactured by Savage and 200 were submitted to the Ordnance Department for field trials. One hundred ninety two Savage Pistols were actually issued to 3rd, 6th and 11th Cavalry Regiments for field tests in 1909. The cavalry found the M1907 Pistols unsatisfactory and all but four of the pistols were eventually returned to Savage. Savage re-finished the pistols, removed the original address on the top of the slide rib and sold them to the public in 1922. The pistol has a dull blue finish with bright barrel and case-hardened trigger, grip safety, magazine release and hammer. The grips are walnut with deep checkering. The magazine is blued. The pistol has an integral sighting rib, partially concealed cog hammer and folding lanyard loop on the grip strap. The pistol has a safety lever on the left side of the frame. The serial number, "141" is located on the underside of the slide. The top of the barrel rib is marked: "CAL.45" and the address: "SAVAGE ARMS CORP. UTICA. N.Y. U.S.A." is roll stamped on the left side of the barrel next to the rib. "SAFE" and "FIRE" are marked next to the safety lever.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol has at least 95% of the original correct factory refurbished dull blue finish and shows only edge wear on contact points. Nearly all of the case colors are visible on the trigger, grip safety and hammer. The grips are in excellent condition with all of the sharp checkering intact. Markings are sharp. The magazine has about 95% of the original blue finish. An excellent example of a scarce Savage M1907 Trials Pistol.
