Description:

The 7.7 mm, Type 99 was adopted by Imperial Japan in the 2,599th year of emperor Jimmu (1939) as a replacement for the previously used 6.5 mm rifles. The Type 99 was produced in two lengths. The rifle version has a barrel that is 31 inches while the short rifle has a barrel that is 25 1/2 inches. This is the rifle version, which is commonly called the Type 99 "long" rifle by collectors. The receiver of this rifle is marked "99 Type". Also stamped on the receiver are the 35th series mark, serial number, and the symbols of the Kokura Army Arsenal and Tokyo Kogyo. The bolt handle, safety, extractor, and bayonet lug are matched to the assembly number 450. All metal parts are blued. The wood is clearly stamped with the Tokyo Kogyo and Kokura Arm Arsenal Second Factory inspection marks. The correct anti-aircraft wings are present. Type 99 rifles are difficult to find in general, but this rifle is special because it is one rifle in the only known pair of consecutively numbered Type 99 rifles.

Rating Definition:

This rifle is in excellent condition with approximately 90% of the original finish remaining. There is a spot of discoloration covering approximately a 1 square inch portion of the chamber area. The royal chrysanthemum has been completely removed. The wood is in excellent original condition with clear inspection marks. There are multiple handling dents and bruises as are typically found on Japanese rifles. The bore is in excellent condition being bright and having strong rifling. An original Japanese cleaning rod is present, but it is from a short rifle.
