A) Japanese Type 99 Rifle

Description:

This short rifle was manufactured at Toyo Kogyo, Hiroshima. The front sight is an invert V with guards and the rear is the ant-aircraft type. All blued metal parts. The receiver is marked with the characters for "99 Type" and the royal chrysanthemum (with a X through it). Full length handguard, drain holes forward of the trigger guard and dustcover, and plum shaped bolt handle knob. Two-piece buttstock with a cupped-edge sheet metal buttplate. This rifle has a monopod, cleaning rod, unmatched dust cover and leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Partially refinished with 80% original blue thinning to brown remains with some slight spotting and, edge wear. The trigger guard and floorplate has thinned to about 50%. Wood is lightly sanded and refinished with some dings, dents and scratches throughout. The top of the stock has a spot were the wood is swollen. The action is fine and all markings remain sharp.

Description:

This is a Japanese Training rifle with no markings other than an anchor with a flower on top of the receiver and an inverted "L" followed by a "51" on the left side of the receiver. Front sight with inverted "V" and rear adjustable sight. The stock is branded with Japanese characters in a circle and rectangle on the right side and sling swivel on the left. Two screw barrel band in the front and sling swivel on the rear band. The two piece wooden stock has a pistol grip and metal buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. 50% of the original blue remains on the receiver and barrel; the balance is smooth gray. The bolt is bright with slight spotting. The magazine box and floorplate are thinning to gray; trigger guard has scattered dings also. Scattered scratches and pressure dents with some chips out of the top on a otherwise good stock. The action is good.
