Description:

Only about 500 of these revolvers were manufactured by C.R. Alsop of Middletown, Conn. In 1862 and '63. This is the Standard Model lacking the safety device on the frame. The top barrel flat is marked "C. R. ALSOP MIDDLETOWN CONN. / PATENTED JULY 17th. AUGUST 7th. 1860 MAY 14th. 1862" and "C.R. ALSOP. PATENTED / NOV. 26th 1861" on the cylinder. There is a brass cone front sight. The nose of the hammer strikes through the sighting groove in the top of the frame. It is fitted with smooth walnut grips with a hump shaped backstrap. The loading lever and hammer are casehardened and the remainder of the revolver is blue.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The cylinder retains almost 99% of the finish. The barrel retains approximately 98% of the original finish with edge wear and a few minor scratches and dings. The frame has a mix of approximately 60% bright original finish and smooth gray patina with smooth gray patina on the grip straps. The hammer and loading lever retain most of the bright case colors. The grips are excellent with most of the original varnish remaining with loss limited to the high edges and rear portions and minor handling marks. The marking are clear. The action is excellent. An exceptional example of a rare Alsop Navy Model revolver.
