Description:

The barrel on this revolver has been shortened to it's present length of 4 inches and the front sight reset. Visible on the top of the rib is "H. & WESSON. SPRINGFIELD, MASS.". The cylinder, sides of the frame and rear half of the barrel sides are custom, possibly period engraved with large floral scrolls and punch dot background. The top and bottom of the back strap have a wedge of the same engraving. The top rear of the rib is engraved with a broad leaf and geometric pattern. The front cylinder face is stamped "118" and the serial number is marked on the butt. The revolver is fitted with varnished rosewood grips. The right panel is stamped with the matching serial number. Complete with an original Belle Starr brown leather flap holster with a hand tooled border and floral patterns. There is a single belt loop attached to the back.

Rating Definition:

Custom embellished, shortened barrel, and refinished. The metal surfaces have and artificial smooth gray patina with dark patina on the cylinder. There is some play in the repaired, welded barrel hinge. The grips are very good, the left panel has a couple of small nicks and minor wear at the bottom. The left panel retains most of the original varnish while the right panel has a pleasant hand rubbed finish. The barrel marking is clear and the engraving is crisp. The action is good. The holster is good with overall minor age cracking. The leather remains supple and the stitching is tight.
