Description:

The Blake Repeating Rifle was manufactured by J.H. Blake, New York circa approximately 1890s to 1910 in an unknown limited quantity. It was designed with a unique seven round rotary magazine which is inserted from the bottom of the receiver. The bottom of the receiver has a hinged door which allows access to the magazine. After military trials the Blake system was deemed unsuitable for military service, losing out to the Krag rifle. The left side of the receiver has a lever that can be switched from "SINGLE" to "RAPID" firing. The front sight is fixed with a ivory bead and the rear sight is an adjustable military type graduated to 1,800 yards. All blue finish with a bright bolt assembly. Full forearm and half length hand guard, three barrel bands, bayonet lug, cleaning rod and checkered pistol grip stock with a steel butt plate and sling swivel plate. Complete with a copy of the book "The Blake Rifle 1898" by John Henry Blake.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has half of the original blue with the balance a blue/brown patina with some light spotting. The two forward barrel bands retain most of the original finish while the rear barrel band has a smooth mottled gray patina. The receiver and trigger guard retain most of the original thinning blue finish with light spotting on the trigger guard. There is some rust on the buttplate. The wood is fine with scattered minor dings and dents. The checkering is crisp. The mechanics are fine.
