Manufactured in 1912, the Model 1897 replaced the Model 1893. This model had a stronger frame, the chamber made longer to handle 2 3/4" shells, the frame top covered for complete side ejection and the stock was made longer with less drop. This shotgun features a single brass bead sight, matte top of the barrel, 2 3/4 inch chamber and is choked full. Standard two line address/patent dates on the barrel followed by "12 GA.", Winchester proof on the top of the receiver and barrel at the breech and standard maker, model and trade mark marking on the slide bar. The bolt is marked "TRAP GUN". The forearm and stock are deluxe checkered walnut with ebony diamond insets on each side of the wrist and a rubber Winchester recoil pad.

Very fine with approximately 90% of the original blue finish remaining. The wood is excellent with a few minor dents and minor handling marks. The checkering is slightly worn from age, remaining crisp. The markings are all clear. The action is fine.
