Description:

The Baker Gun & Forging Co. of Batavia, New York was founded in early 1890 and was the first American arms company to make a single barrel trap shotgun and a single barrel trap shotgun with a ventilated rib. The company quickly gained a reputation for reliability and strength among shooters of the era. This shotgun features double bead sights on a matte vent rib, choked full with 2 3/4" chamber and an extractor. The water table and bottom of the barrel lug are marked with matching serial numbers and "STERLING". The matching serial number is also stamped on the inside wood and hardware of the forearm. The receiver, trigger guard and break lever are scroll engraved with game scene on the receiver. Both sides of the receiver are marked "BAKER GUN CO." The forearm and straight grip stock are checkered with a red rubber vented Pachmayr White Line recoil pad.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The shotgun retains 98% of the original finish with some thinning and high edge wear on the breech end of the barrels and edge wear on the receiver. The rear portion of the forearm iron is thinning on the bottom. The trigger guard and lower tang are a mix of thinning original finish a smooth gray patina. The wood has been revarnished and remains very good overall. The checkering on the forearm shows heavy wear and the stock checkering is crisp with some minor overall handling marks. The recoil pad is cracking in the vents. The engraving is sharp. Mechanically excellent.
