Baker Gun & Forging Company was founded in 1890 in Batavia, New York. Baker was the first American company to manufacture a single barrel trap shotgun and one with a vented rib. In recent years these have become highly collectable. This shotgun features double ivory bead sights on the matte, high vent rib with some support posts removed, choked Improved Modified with a 2 1/2" chamber and extractor. The receiver and trigger guard are floral engraved with game scenes on the receiver. There is a 1 inch floral engraved wedge on the top of barrel on each side. Each side of the receiver is marked "BAKER GUN CO." The forearm is a large trap style with fancy checkering. The side flats and wrist of the fancy pistol grip stock are checkered, there is a hard rubber grip cap and brown vented Supreme rubber recoil pad.

Very good overall. The barrel retains approximately 90% of the original finish with some signs of cleaning, some light spotting and a couple of small areas of very minor pitting. The sides of the rib have some minor pitting and areas of gray patina. The rear portion of the barrel shows high edge wear, some pin prick pitting and gray patina. The receiver retains almost all of the original finish and the trigger guard is a mix of blue and gray patina. The wood is good with a minor crack on the forearm and one of the wrist, some light sanding and minor finish loss on the stock and light handling marks. The checkering is crisp for the most part. Engraving is clear. Mechanically fine.
