Introduced in 2000 this rifle represents the latest development in firearms and ammunition technologies. Outwardly the Model 700 EtronX looks and feels like a standard Model 700. Where conventional firearms utilize the impact of the firing pin on a percussion primer, the electronic ignition system of the EtronX uses an electrical impulse to accomplish the same action with electric primed EtronX ammunition. There is a key switch on the bottom of the pistol grip to enable and disable the electronic system. A conventional 9 volt battery is located in the buttstock under the recoil pad. The EtronX also features a LED on top of the wrist behind the tang which flashes indicating ready to fire, low battery and other warnings. The barrel is fluted and manufactured without sights. The top of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Hinged floorplate, jeweled bolt and smooth trigger. The one piece pistol grip stock is made of fiberglass and graphite reinforced with Kevlar fitted with a solid rubber recoil pad and sling swivel studs. Weight is about 8.8 lbs.
