When Winchester dropped the Model 1886 from it's line in 1935, they replaced the large bore lever action with the Model 71 chambered with the 348. It is similar in appearance to the 1886 with some internal parts strengthened to handle the powerful 348 cartridge. This rifle was manufactured in 1955 and features a hooded ramp front sight, filler block in the rear sight slot and an adjustable Williams peep sight installed on the receiver. 1/2 length magazine. Checkered forearm with a metal forend cap and pistol grip stock with a black Winchester marked grip cap, checkered metal buttplate and sling swivel studs.

Excellent plus with 99% of the original blue finish remaining. The forearm cap shows an area of light surface scratching and the lever has some areas of light pin prick pitting. The receiver sight is excellent with sharp white highlighted markings. The wood is excellent with only minor pressure dents and light surface scratches.
