Description:

This is basically a Type 97 with a side mounted 2.5 power telescope and bipod, ( this specific rifle is missing the bipod), introduced in 1937. The telescopes were factory mounted (and this particular one is from another rifle and is number 169). The left side of the receiver has the serial number "2047" next to the intertwined symbol for the Kokura arsenal. The top of the receiver is marked "97 Type" below the mum. The rifle is equipped with a fixed inverted "V" front sight with square side guards and a tangent rear sight graduated to 2,400 meters. These early rifles all exhibited a very high quality level of fit, finish and manufacture that rivaled the best commercial rifles of the day. The stock is a one piece pistol grip with finger grooves and hand guard, bayonet lug , cleaning rod, dust cover on the bolt and sling swivels. The scope is the correct type numbered to another gun and the rubber eye piece is missing. The bayonet lug is un-numbered, the bolt is numbered to the gun and the dust cover is numbered to another gun.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains approximately 95% of the faded original finish. The stock is very good with a couple small gouges and pressure dents, and overall minor scattered dings and nicks. The mum has been struck and is still visible while the remaining markings are crisp. The scope is excellent with some light wear and scratches, all markings are highlighted in white and the optics are clear. The action is excellent.
