Description:

The 6.5 mm, Type 44 carbine was designed specifically for cavalry use and adopted by Imperial Japan in 1911. The receiver of this carbine is marked "44 Type" indicating its adoption during the 44th year of Meiji. The receiver is also marked with the 2nd series mark, serial number, and the symbol of the Nagoya Army Arsenal. The wood is clearly stamped with the Nagoya Army Arsenal mark and the Chigusa Factory mark. The bolt handle, safety, floor plate, and bayonet are matched to the last three digits of the serial number. The firing pin is unnumbered and has the Chigusa inspection mark. The bolt is in-the-white. The floor plate release, trigger, ejector spring, and rear sight leaf spring are strawed. The remainder of the metal parts are blued. This carbine has the third variation bayonet housing. The left side of the stock is stamped "EHS, Kure Japan" near the receiver.

Rating Definition:

This carbine is in excellent condition with approximately 97% of the original metal finish remaining. The royal chrysanthemum is intact. The wood is in excellent original condition with clear inspection marks. The stock has a few minor dents and bruises which are typically found on Japanese rifles. The bore is in excellent condition being bright and having strong rifling.
