Excellent overall with 98% of Czech arsenal blued finish overall with just minor edge wear. The stock and handguard both have a nice matching dark brown color with only some minor handling marks and pressure dents from field use. The scope mount has 95% of the arsenal finish with edge and high spot wear with matching numbers on the upper and lower sections. The scope has 80% of a thinning blue/gray finish with only the scope number and date of manufacture on the windage and elevation base itself. The optics are clear and sharp. The rifle has a matching bolt and sniper bases with the remaining parts correctly unnumbered.
This is a rare example of a early Czech VZ 24 sniper rifle. These rifles the standard prewar service rifle selected for better accuracy as produced at the BRNO factory prior to WWII that were converted, into a sniper configuration. The top of the front and rear receiver ring was dovetailed and a set of large reverse taper bases were installed on which they fitted a unique, fully machined sliding sniper mount. These mounts are large and very rugged and in this example it has been fitted with a WWII Russian PEM sniper scope. These Russian scopes were probably one of the better scopes made during WWII. They were copied from a early WWI German Zeiss pattern and had excellent optical glass, even by today's standards. The scope is dated 1937 and it correctly has had the rear markings removed, and the front recoil ring so that it will fit in the current mount. The rifle has matching numbered scope bases and the mount itself has all matching numbers on the top and lower sections. The rifle itself has the correct markings on receiver side rail and it has matching numbers on the bolt (except the scope mount as noted), with the remaining parts unnumbered. It is correctly fitted with the all milled prewar barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate. It has the correct Czech VZ24 stock and handguard with both the side and bottom mounted sling swivels with the rack number '51' stamped on the left side of the buttstock. The rifle is complete with an unmarked leather scope case that houses the complete mount and scope.
