The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S. / MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." next to the serial number. It is fitted with a tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards, sling swivels and trapdoor buttplate with cleaning rod. Straight grip military style stock with finger grooved forearm and short length hand guard that has a boxed JSA / 1900 cartouche on the left side with a circled script "P" proof mark in the pistol grip area behind the trigger guard.

Partially refinished (receiver) with balance retaining 85% of the faded blue finish with the rifle exhibiting some light to moderate wear on the exposed trigger guard, buttplate and sides of the barrel bands with some light thinning on the barrel. There is a smooth gray patina on the side plate. The stock and hand guard are excellent with some minor nicks, scratches and pressure dents. There is a clear and distinct cartouche and proof.

The top of the receiver is marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / MODEL 1903." over the serial number. Later style smooth trigger, front fixed and rear adjustable military sights and one piece straight grip stock fitted with a smooth empty trapdoor buttplate. Complete with sling swivels. Small "circle s" stamp present on left side of sight base.

Refinished (most likely in the 1930s by Sedgely) with the receiver retaining 97% of refinished blue and the barrel retaining 90% of thinning refinish. The barrel bands, trigger guard and floor plate retain approximately 10% of refinish in the protected areas mixed with smooth brown patina. The stock is very good with some minor nicks and scratches overall. There is a large collection of minor scratches on the left side of the wrist. Mechanically excellent.
